I have been working with a small hospital's rehab department(14 rehab beds) on creating an inpatient amputee rehab program. The hospital has a sincere desire to use prosthetic rehabilitation as a tool to facilitate growth in the rehab department. We have spent many hours developing protocols covering all aspect pre and post operative amputee care. The Director of Rehab has expressed a desire to meet and possibly observe a current program that is in operation. The hospital does not desire to take over amputee rehab in our region but rather improve care to this local population and in turn maximize their rehab dollars. The current protocol for amputee care is to discharge to home or care facility as soon as wound is stable and the patient can transfer from bed to chair/chair to camode.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or guidance in regards to this matter.

  Responses will be posted.
