Hudaa and The List,
As a 46 year old orthotic/prosthetic technician who has been an extremely
active amputee for 23 years, I can relate to your message (and frustration)
- a message we, as professional care givers should understand - and most do.
In a capitalistic society, health care suffers. This is my opinion. Perhaps
I should phrase it, in a bureaucratic society. There is a balance beam we
as health care professionals are walking - profit on one side and the best
health care possible on the other. I am no politician - I shall leave those
battles for younger folks - but I cherish my position in our world. I love
what I do, helping others in the same boat I'm in, and I too can see the
benefit of physical therapists working hand in hand with both orthotists and
prosthetists.
I am extremely fortunate - an avid rock climber who requires less
attention than most amputees - but still, or perhaps because of, I dream of
a facility where C.O., C.P.., P.T. can supply a clinic with a gym/training
center where people with dis-ABILITIES can realize there full potential. To
me it seems a natural marriage of professionals - and a common sense
approach from the patients view point. So here I make my point, let's put on
our thinking caps and come up with some new thoughts - and then follow
through. Anyone else like my idea? I'm in.
I apologize for the grammer - but needed to respond as I am out the door
for a first vacation this millennium.
Thanks to all who partake in this forum - it is part of life's blood,
communication.
