CMS has announced proposed changes to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) that will provide substantial increases for evaluation and management services, that is, time and effort that physicians spend with patients evaluating their condition and advising and assisting them in managing their health. The improved payments are expected to result in better outcomes because the physicans will get financial support for giving patients the help they need to manage illness more effectively.

I believe this methodology, to some degree should be considered when establishing allowable fees under the HCPCS coding system. Specifically those that relate to custom made orthotic and prosthetic devices.

Kathy Dodson and her group does a wonderful job working with CMS. This maybe something worth investigating.
