The Barr Foundation and Lifestyle Prosthetics and Orthotics of North
Andover, Ma, announces that Daniel Sheret , long distance endurance amputee
cyclist has completed his 1250 mile cycle trek From John O'Groats Scotland
to Land's End, England on June 13,20006 .During his 14 day journey Sheret
stopped along the way and visited Stratheclyde University, the leading O and
P School in the UK.
There, he spoke to students and faculty about the importance of motivating
the amputee to become partners in their own healthcare. Opcare a leading
service provider in the United Kingdom invited Sheret to visit and meet with
as many amputees as possible at their facilities. The people of OpCare were
wonderful. I enjoyed talking with amputees they served and was delighted to
see a positive can do attitude by both staff and the patients. Attitude is
everything. said Sheret.
I am an Ertl Amputee and a supporter of the work of the Barr Foundation and
it was a real pleasure to act on their behalf as a rolling ambassador of
sorts. I had the pleasure of presenting copies of the Amputee Survivor Guide
and the Ertl Procedure DVD to the library at Strathclyde. They house the
largest collection of O and P information in the world.Sheret used the Ossur
seal in liner system and a Renegade foot by Freedom and reported both work
flawlessly. I really gave the Seal-in a hard workout. From freezing rain to
95 degree heat and to 130 miles in a single day I never once had the seal
break including a spectacular crash I did at 25 mph. The leg just stayed
on. Said SheretDan looks forward to returning to ride again in the UK but
for now is busy meeting and speaking with amputee support groups around the
country. For more information about having Sheret speak at your facility or
to read about his trek, visit the Amputee Cycling Association website.
