I am sorry for the delay. I am giving summary off the top of my head. I apologize that I don't have enough time to give reference to the respondents.
Original posting:I fitted an Ossur Dynamic AFO according manufacturers instructions. My patient returned with complaints of distal tibial pressure. I have called Ossur office two time but no one has been available to help. The orthosis provides very good function and the patient is pleased with but has not been able to wear it as much as he needs it. The material is laminated composit and cannot be heat modified. It is difficult to add padding for relief as the contact area is over 3 long.
Has anyone had this problem? Were you able to solve it?
************
The standard response, as stated in manufacturers instructions, was to try removing some of the distal toe plate so the AFO will be placed away from the tibial slightly.I had done that in the initial fitting but probably not enough. Trimming a little more seemed to help. The other adjustment was, on the molded FO he was wearing, I increase the arch support which reduced external rotation and improved leg alignment.
Several folks had given up on the Ossur orthosis and recommended the Toe Off from Trulife (CAMP).
Padding or a void created by padding did not work because the affected area was almost 4 long on the medial side of the tibial crest where the strut contacts the leg.
Thanks to all who responded.
