In maintaining the spirit of the Women in O & P presentation at the 2006
Academy meeting, I am pleased to announce that OPGA will host a WOMEN'S ONLY
M.A.S. Socket Design Seminar. Female prosthetists from around the world are
invited to attend this exclusive event at Northwestern University P&O Center
in Chicago, IL on July 8-9, 2006. Please note that this is a one-time only
event and will have limited registration, so please register today. In
addition, OPGA will offer a $100 reduction on the registration fee for all
past MAS attendees that would like to take the seminar again.<?xml:namespace

Originally inspired by a female patient, Marlo Ortiz created his innovative
above-the-knee socket design after multiple requests for the removal of
materials from the proximal portion of the socket in order to enhance the
cosmetic appearance of the prosthesis. The result is today's version with
extraordinary ROM capability, enhanced proprioceptive feedback and comfort
while sitting, remarkable control of the prosthesis throughout all phases of
gait and the most superior cosmetic result on the proximal portion of the
socket ever achieved. Senor' Ortiz would like to extend his personal
invitation for women prosthetists to attend.
Since September of 2004, OPGA has hosted 21 MAS seminars and qualified over
450 prosthetists across the world in this innovative socket design that has
received rave reviews from both patients and prosthetists.
Along with this unique opportunity for the Women in O&P, OPGA has finalized
the 2006 MAS Seminar schedule. If you would like to attend any of the
following seminars, contact Agnes Curran, CP at 800-279-7794. Presently, no
plans have been made for seminars in 2007, so if you're interesting in
attending a seminar, please register for one of the following:
June 10-11 Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA
July 8-9 Women's Only seminar - Northwestern University O&P
Center, Chicago, IL
Sept. 7-8 Hutnick Rehab - Islip, NY (Long Island)
Two tiers of learning are offered at the seminars:
* Tier I - Hands-On - Full two-day seminar, which includes patient
evaluation with casting, modifications, and two test sockets. Attendee is
encouraged to provide own patient model and his/her travel arrangements.
Tier II - Observation - Full two-day seminar that includes all course
materials, observation of patient evaluation, but no hands-on participation.
There will be 2-3 observers teamed up with each hands-on attendee who will
assist in all aspects of the casting, modifying and fitting of the test
sockets.
For those not familiar with the M.A.S. socket design, it is a revolutionary
new socket design created by Marlo Ortiz from Guadalajara, MX. To read more
