Roy gave me my first job in the industry back in 1975 before I
attended the University of Washington. My job was to hand pull
prefabricated AFOs at the central fabrication lab in Downey, CA. I was
getting pretty good at consistent pulls, but every once in a while, I
would goof one up, ruining a piece of plastic, and sure enough, it
seemed that every time that happened, Roy would be walking through the
lab., but he never criticized me for it!
. During that program, Roy came up to speak to my class of 1977 at the
U of W and spoke to our class of eight on professionalism. This set
the tone for me on the importance of how we present ourselves as
professionals. From how we dress, having clean fingernails, cleaning up
after ourselves and not clogging the hospital sinks with plaster, I
continue to remember his words as I represent our profession to our
clients and the our allied medical colleagues.
Thanks for the good influence on our profession, Roy!
