Range of Motion Project Helps to Provide Artificial Limbs to 48 People in
Ecuador
Chicago, IL-February 20, 2006-Two Range of Motion Project (ROMP) volunteer
prosthetists traveled to Quito, Ecuador to provide no-cost prosthetic
rehabilitation for almost 50 poverty stricken individuals disabled by
amputation.
The mission, 'Prostheses for Ecuador' is an annual project sponsored by the
local Ecuadorian organization, Fundacion Hermano Miguel who advocates for
disability rights and provision of care to the poor.
From 1/29/2006 - 2/3/2006 a team of 5 volunteer prosthetists, 2 technicians,
a surgeon and support staff worked alongside Ecuadorian clinicians to cast,
design and fit 48 prosthetic limbs.
Various Hope Donor Club manufacturers, listed at www.oandp.com/barr donated
prosthetic components and critical funding was provided by The Barr
Foundation, a non profit organization initially founded in Joliet,Illinois
by amputee Senator William G. Barr, now based in Boca Raton, Florida , that
has been able to provide prosthetic rehabilitation to over 1200 amputees in
the USA and abroad whom otherwise could not afford it.
The Barr Foundation is able to help ROMP with the help of financial
contributions, participation of sponsoring prosthetists, and Where Hope
Meets Help Donor Club members.

These programs represent an essential attempt to restore justice for the
marginalized populations of poor, undereducated and unemployed disabled
people throughout the world.
Certified prosthetists David Krupa and Eric Neufeld, along with attorney
Josh Kaplan created ROMP in response to the shortage of programs that assist
people in need of prosthetic and orthotic care. ROMP is a 501(c)3
non-profit organization that provides no-cost prosthetic and orthotic care
to individuals in developing regions. ROMP's vision has led the
organization to Guatemala, where a fully functional prosthetic lab has been
built, Ecuador, and Pakistan.
