Initial request:
We have noticed ongoing problems with our current custom shoe provider,
and have had the last several pair of shoes having excess depth of 1/4 or
more from the toe box all the way back. This has required returning the
shoes for remake. The manufacturer has expressed we are too fussy.
In an effort not to publicly trash this manufacturer, I ask your help in
our search for alternative providers. LIST: Who are you happy with and who
has a good customer service track record in your experience for
manufacturing custom shoes?
Responses in order of frequency:
1. Branier 877-524-0639
2. Hersco 1-800-301-8275
3. Gartner 1-701-223-0407
4. ACOR
5. Rizzo, American, Jerry Miller, City & Suburban Shoes
Following are the narrative responses. Up North gave me a good laugh.
Thank you all. R Miller, CO
We use Branier out of Florida and we are very happy with them.
Contact City and Suburban Shoes in Chicago. I've always found them to be
excellent.
Our company has good results from Branier Orthopedic Custom Molded Shoes in
Tamarac, Florida (www.branier.com) or call them 877-524-0639
ACOR
Hersco shoes on New York do a quality job with good turn-around and
excellent customer service.
HANDS or TOES DOWN...CALL BRANIER !!!! I have used a few different
manufacturers in my career and Terry at Branier has it all together..fast
turn around and great fit...as I said GREAT fit...877-524-0639..call Terry
I have all my custom shoes made a Gartner shoe capital in Bismarck, ND
Turn around time has been great, approx. 3weeks. The fit usually not a
problem, they are good to work with on those difficult cases. They call
me if they have questions or ideas that maybe will work better for the
pt. Contact is Mark Gartner 1-701-223-0407
We use Hersco Orthotic Labs located in NY...very helpful with rare re-do's.
In the past 10 years I have used many of the custom shoe guys they all seem
to have a common trend. They do great for awhile then it seems like they
get way too busy hire more help, expand and the work turns south, despite
the increase in turn around and better cosmetics.
I have been using Gartner Capital Shoe Hospital out of Bismarck North
Dakota. He's a good old boy who you can call up and get the local news and
makes a solid utilitarian product at a fair price in good time, and hey he's
from the mid west! I have had a remake on a shoe though any problems have
been easily resolved and when you call you get to talk to the man himself
and he takes care of it.
I have had very good experience with Branier Orthopedic. I, too, have been
frustrated with other fabricators.
This sort of thing seems to be a chronic issue. Once you do find someone
you like it seems that they get too busy or make changes and quality falls
off. We currently are pretty happy working with Jerry Miller custom molded
shoes.
We too have had ongoing problems with our custom shoe providers, so we
started to look. We recently have been using Hersco and have been very
pleased. So far the quality has been very good and they have been good to
work with. Try talking to them (1-800-301-8275).
We have a small office in the middle of the forest where we make things
to be worn on ones feet, you may call them shoes. They are made of totally
organic materials. When you are done wearing them, you can eat them. We use
finely tuned tools like chainsaws and axes. Please contact me if you are
interested. Up North Shoes and Stuff and Stuff.
We don't do shoes on a regular basis, but I have had very good luck with
Acor in Ohio for my partial foot custom shoes with custom inserts. I just
do a slipper type cast and send it off with specific instructions. Customer
service has been fair+ to good everytime and turn around has been good.
Have not been really happy with anyone, but American Shoes has been the best
for us. It is the guys who used to be with Tru-Fit, but broke the company
up.
I also have had problems in the past with various custom shoe companies. I
have been using Branier Custom Shoes out of Florida for the past two years
and I am very pleased with them. Hope this helps !!
