I wanted to forward to you all of the repsonses that I received on my initial question
arding facility accreditation: The initial question was:
Could anyone share with me their experience in how best to preprare for
Facility Accreditation. What options are currently present to approach this
subject for a facility?
Responses:
Here are a couple of quotes we have received from those that have ordered
our P&P manual. You could post them as responses in your summary to the
listserve. Just post them without names.
We used the Policy & Procedures manual from OPGA and were very satisfied.
It only took us about 2 weeks to put it together which was great because we
were under the gun trying to get ready for our accreditation
I was starting a new business and ordered the OPGA manual. It was great
and helped me in a number of ways besides facility accreditation. It was
also a big help in getting managed care contracts.
Hi Brad,
ABC has a workbook that takes you step by step through what is needed for the inspection. Many of the things you already doing, but this documents it.
Good luck!

Hello Brad,
This is Marita Dorsch Carozza,CP.FAAOP, I am one of the facility accreditation surveyors.
If you contact ABC either be e-mail at abcop.org or call Tammi at 703-836-7114 ext. 230 and you will get the facility self-assessment guide and application.
When you look through the self-assessment guide it will state the requirements, and the paperwork the surveyor will be reviewing.
Contact ABC and AOPA. There is detailed info available on data compiling for facility certification. It is a drawn out process but worth the effort. It forces you to organize your facility. The accountability you develop is worth the work.

Brad, my first time through I brought in a person who had done the sight
visits several times and had a mock accreditation visit. It helped, I
covered everything in the manual. Bill Barringer

Brad, Prep for Facility Accreditation is pretty straight forward, you know what ABC expects from your facility and staff from the information in the Facility Accreditation manual. When it's time for site visit, an ABC Rep will make sure your physical facility is accessible and safe, will check your business documents and will check patient charting documentation, and chat with your staff. You don't need to have a 100 to be accredited. Our facility has been thru accreditation three times, if you have specific questions, please ask.

Hello Brad ?
We saw your post on the listserv and wanted to let you know that PROMISE Consulting does help facilities prepare for accreditation. There are many documents you need to have in place and we can help to make that process easier. Would you like to chat by phone and I can fill you in on many more details? I work as DeLaTorre?s practice administrator and have a consulting business ? PROMISE. That entity does work for many other o/p facilities and we do sign a confidentiality agreement so you can be assured any private information is not disclosed to the DeLaTorre?s.
I?d love to work with you on this!
Brad,
OPGA has available an excellent Policy & Procedures Manual that assists you
in making it through the Facility Accreditation process. Included in the
manual are the current FAP standards and it has a cd that allows you to
customize all the necessary policies and procedures required. It is set up
in an easy to use format and also assists in the daily operation of any O&P
business. Plus, with today's added pressures from managed care, licensure
and documentation requirements, it puts you in a very proactive position.
If you want any additional information, call us at 800-214-6742.
