In addition to the variety of content-rich sessions at the Academy's
Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium, a number of practitioners will
want to attend special sessions which are more intensive. For those, the
Academy offers three Clinical Techniques sessions for a small additional
charge of $75.

Friday, March 3
8:00-9:30am (concurrent sessions)
The first is a 90-minute session on How Do Cardiopulmonary and/or
Cardiovascular Diseases Effect the Treatment of the Amputee: A Clinical
Approach. A trio of experienced practitioners will discuss the
diagnostics for cardio-pulmonary problems; ejection fractions (to what %
the heart is pumping properly), CHF, chest X-rays, catherizations,
medications, and their effect on the body and how they affect prosthetic
treatment of an amputee. The session will also address the ability of a
patient's heart to handle ambulation at all, the weight of components,
safety expectations during treatment, the effects of certain
medications, and more.

Practical Orthotic Management of the Diabetic Lower Extremity is the
second 90-minute session offered and will focus on the management of the
diabetic/neuropathic foot including review of footwear, footwear
modifications, foot orthoses design and fabrication as well as various
ankle foot orthoses. A casting demonstration for CROW's and other ankle
foot orthoses will be highlighted with interaction from the attendees
encouraged. Roger Marzano, CPO, CPed will be sharing 25 years of
clinical pearls and cases to highlight how to successfully salvage the
complex myriad of diabetic foot disorders presented to today's O&P
practices.

Saturday, March 4
7:30 - 9:00am
For those who want to learn about Healthcare Litigation, the third
Clinical Techniques session presented by the Academy Lower Limb
Prosthetics Society is sure to satisfy. Review anonymous case materials
that address the various concerns involved in litigation. Address the
questions: Where did everything go wrong? What could have been
accomplished to avoid this type of situation?

These sessions require advance registration and an additional $75 each.

The 2006 Annual Meeting will be March 1-4 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
Deadline for early registration and release of the room block at the
lower rates is February 4. For complete program details and to register
online, please visit the Academy's Annual Meeting website at
