There will be four (4) special clinical sessions which you won't want to miss at the Academy's Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium March 1-4, 2006 in Chicago.
Thursday, March 2 -
Trends in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Concerning COBB Angle vs. Overall Balance and the Application of Forces.
A new debate format will lead the way with an interactive discussion by invited specialists with opposing views who will discuss and debate treatment methods, outcomes and opportunities. Join Andrew Mills, CO (UK); Keith Smith, CO, LO; Don Katz, CO, LO, FAAOP; and Tom Colburn, CO, FAAOP in this interactive session.
Friday, March 3 -
Integration of Contemporary Orthopedic and Orthotic Management of Clubfoot.
Dr. Ignacio V. Ponseti, a world renowned leader in the field of orthopaedics, will lead a session focusing on his radiographic and anatomic studies of clubfoot that have helped to define the basic nature of the deformity, and to identify those components of the deformity which are embryonic versus those which result from treatment.
Pharmacologic and Orthotic Management of Lower Limb Spasticity, Treatment Protocols, Clinical Application and Outcomes explores the protocols for treatment of the hypertonic and spastic patient post pharmacologic implementation. Patients can be treated with more aggressive orthotic approaches as a result of the combined effort with Botulinum injections. In the past, these protocols were contraindicated due to the uncontrolled tone. This symposium will introduce the new concept of the team approach of lessening tone with Botulinum and then increasing ROM through orthotic management to improve gait deviations.
International Symposium on Osseointegration
The Academy is thrilled to welcome an international panel of presenters to discuss the cutting edge topic of Osseointegration. Explore the research in neuroprosthetics that is part of a larger trend in prosthetics that aims to integrate body, mind and machine. Featured presenters are Roy Bloebaum, MD, Salt Lake City UT, and international participants: Stewe Jönsson, CPO; Kerstin Caine Winterberger, and Eva Häggström.
