O & P Listserv-
Happy Holidays to all! Today I received my license for prosthetics
from the state of New Jersey. It is my pleasure to provide the chronology
of events leading to this glorious event.
June 2003--- I wrote to the Orthotic and Prosthetic Board and requested an
application for a prosthetic license since I had recently passed the ABC
prosthetic boards.
July 2003--- I received an application for an OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST.
Immediately I called to report the error, and asked for the correct
application. I was told that there were no applications available --- the
grandfathering processing of applicants was in completion, and soon
applications for NEW applicants would be available.
September 2003---Wrote to the board requesting an application for a
prosthetic license.
March 2004---wrote another letter to the board requesting a prosthetic
license
November 11, 2004--- I approached a board member at the Atlantic City NJAAOP
meeting and asked WHY THE BOARD COULD NOT PROVIDE AN APPLICATION FOR
PROSTHETIC LICENSE when NJ statutes demand a prosthetist be licensed. The
board member gave me his home address......asked me to send copies of my
letters to the board, and assured me that he would see to it that I received
one
December 2004---- received 2 applications in the mail for a prosthetic
license.
January 2005--sent the completed application, and money orders to the board
July 2005--- received a response from the board stating that even though I
had been fingerprinted by another Department in New Jersey Government, the
Division of Consumer Affairs only recognizes fingerprinting by the
Department of Consumer Affairs---so I needed to be fingerprinted again.
Also received notice that I needed a NOTARIZED copy of my residency
completion sheet.
August 2005--- Fingerprinted again--same place......another 78 dollars.
September 2005---Sent receipt to the board verifying fingerprinting. Also
sent copy of notarized residency completion sheet.
November 2005---- called the board to find out when prosthetic license will
be sent..... told between 10-15 days
December 6, 2005..... I received my prosthetic license.
Just wondering....... has anyone else in New Jersey experienced the same
frustration as I have? Afterall...........it took 30 months to get a
prosthetic license. So legally I was not able to work as a prosthetist in
New Jersey until I had a license.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Oriti
