I have copied below the responses to my recent query about
management/billing software used I P&O practices. Of the small,
self-selected sample this represents Futura seems to be the favorite. No new
responses have been received for quite a while now, so I am posting the
results now. Thanks to all who responded.

We transitioned from Medflex to Futura at the start of this year. I am very
happy with Futura and so is my staff. Price is competitive in my opinion.
Support is superb. Learning curve is quick. I recommend the product
without reservation.

Our office uses Futura. I only use the clinical aspects of the program, (not
the financial records and reporting), and I found it easy to learn and use.
No complaints

I have used a number of programs through the years but we have now used
Futura the longest (8 years). The software for the most part is user
friendly and allows for development of paperless files if that's what you
want. We have both paper and paperless. The main problem with any software
is educating your office staff and practitioners on how to use the software.

If the staff learns to use it properly the software definitely makes the
work easier but if they try to short cut the input process of information
and notations that's when people have trouble. The software is HIPPA
compliant and allows for HIPPA OFFICE compliance without much difficulty,
most of the difficulty is for your manual for HIPPA and not the program. The
documentation in your HIPPA manual must include things like who has access
to what and the limitation on the staff as to what everyone can see or
modify but that's another issue.

I am using the Opie Office Suite. I have two patient care facilities and do
much of my paperwork, documentation from home. My office manager is able to
work from home two days away by remote access.

While the billing component is not finished yet, it has changed my life.

All of the parts available save time and money. My front office and my
entire company is running with much greater efficiency---despite the burden
of Medicare audits in Region C.

I highly recommend it. If you purchase it now then you get the other
components at no charge when they are available

QuickPAS is a windows based package designed specifically and exclusively
for the O and P Industry. QuickPAS was first released in 2002 and has grown
ever since. We take pride in our customer service. We customize QuickPAS
for every client. For example, we recently created a new version of patient
statements at the request of one client. When the rest of our clients run
the Patient Statements report, they get the standard report, but this one
client gets a modified version.

We frequently ask our clients What can we do to make your life
easier?

QuickPAS runs in an ASP environment on our servers. This allows our
clients to access their data from multiple offices or from home. We do all
upgrades and backups, saving you time and frustration. We also download and
enter Medicare fee schedules for each of our clients.

Since the software runs on our servers, there is no need for our
clients to do frequent hardware updates. In fact, a 200 Mhz PC with a DSL
internet connection is all you will ever need to run QuickPAS.

Since it's original release, we have added many features, including a
scheduling module. We have customize the scheduling module for one client
so they can use it to keep track of documentation.

We charge based on the number of users. For 10 users or less, we charge
$3000 for the initial setup and license fees. We charge $150 a month for
support and maintenance. This includes software customizations. To get an
apples to apples comparison, ask other software vendors how much it costs to
have their software hosted on a Citrix or Terminal Server.
