The Orthotic and Prosthetic Assistance Fund (OPAF) is pleased to announce
the launch of their newest program, First Volley Tennis Clinics. The
inaugural First Volley will be held on Sunday, August 7 at Bucks County
Racquet Club, located in Washington Crossing, PA. The program is free to
all participants.
Many amputees who were once active on the tennis court may not have not
played since becoming an amputee. Often, these people feel that playing the
game they once enjoyed is no longer an option. Many orthotic wearers share
this frustration. For these people, if they wanted to play again, they
would likely need to learn to play the game over again using different
techniques than those that worked previously. This would require lessons,
and where can you find someone skilled in teaching amputees and orthotic
wearers to play tennis? For others, learning to play tennis may have been a
thought at some point in life, but never acted upon. For most of these
people, playing tennis has become a distant dream. Since 1995, The Orthotic
and Prosthetic Assistance Fund, Inc. (OPAF) has been helping give wings to
dreams. For amputees and those wearing an orthosis who have ever dreamed
of playing tennis, OPAF is ready to Give Wings to Your Dreams!
First Volley was the brainchild of OPAF's Executive Director, Robin Burton,
and tennis professional Darren Kindred. Darren has years of experience
working with amputees and people wearing orthoses. He and his team of
tennis pros will be giving individual and group instructions to players at
all skill levels. If you are an amputee or someone wearing an orthosis with
a desire to play tennis, First Volley is for you! Regardless of your skill
level, this talented group of tennis pros is ready to help you take your
game to the next level. There is NO CHARGE for the First Volley Tennis
Clinic. There are a limited number of spaces available so register early!
First Volley has been made possible by the generous support of the primary
sponsors of the event, which include Bucks County Racquet Club, Prince
Sports, Inc., and Comfort Products, Inc. This program is not only for
patients, but also for anyone in the rehabilitation or Orthotic & Prosthetic
fields, who would like to learn or relearn the game of tennis. Please make
your patients aware of this FREE opportunity for them as well as for
everyone interested.
