This user friendly book illustrates how persons who have had above-knee
amputation have resumed their activities following surgery, rehabilitation,
and physical therapy. Close-up photographs of various prostheses show
options for different conditions and show how individuals are using their
prostheses to run, play golf, go bicycling, and surfboarding. Also covered
are:

Amputee. is now being made available by The Barr Foundation, another
excellent non-profit organization. See information below.
The survival guides are now being published by the Barr Foundation

Northwestern University's Prosthetic & Orthotic program offers a great
booklet which i believe is also offered by A.O.P.A. It's a gneneric one
which most companies hand out to their paients.

transtibial and transfemoral levels of amputation. They include all of the
information needed by new patients. The contact information and cost is

You may want to consider issuing a Because We Care amputee education
packet. It is published by the A.C.A. (Amputee Coalition of America) in
cooperation and with funding from the C.D.C (Centers of Disease Control).
The amount of relevant information provided in the packet is impressive and
very inexpensive.

Try Don Shurr, CPO, FAAOP. I believe he has some established protocols in
written form.

Jack Uellendahl, CPO, put some together for AOPA. There is one for the
Transtibial patient and one for Transfemoral patients. They're put together
well and explain what one can expect from pre-surgery to finished
prosthesis.

The American Coalition for Amputees has a package and I believe either
AAOP or ABC also have a pamplet
