As the owner of a company, I fully understand the frustration that this
individual experienced with the inability to return the knee. I
actually had to ask my business partner if he was aware that there isn't
a return policy on knees. Neither of us were aware of such a policy. In
the past, if that situation arose, we are fortunate in that we could use
that particular knee in the future for another patient, although I
dislike stocking items with such high costs. Would I stop using that
particular manufacturer, probably not. I'd consider it a learning
experience and utilize the loaner program in the future.
How big of an issue is the return policy on knees really? Now if we
were talking about feet, I think that is something we could all relate
with. Our facility routinely order different feet for our patients to
demo, and choose the product that works the best. I would have to
assume that Ossur takes back millions of dollars in feet each year from
all of us, just so that we can provide the highest care possible to our
patients. Those feet go in the trash. Period. Imagine if that policy
was not in place. I'd like to publicly thank them for allowing me the
freedom to make the best choice for my patients. I'd especially like to
thank Mike Kelly our customer service rep. His attention to our
facility has been nothing short of outstanding and he has become like
one of our staff over the years.
