OPAF WELCOMES NEW INTERN
Washington, DC - The Orthotic and Prosthetic Assistance Fund, OPAF, welcomes
the newest intern for its Washington DC Community Initiative, Danielle
Kochavi, a public health and health services student at The George
Washington University in Washington DC. Kochavi will continue to grow
OPAF's relationship with HSC Pediatric Center, a nonprofit hospital located
in northeast Washington DC that ensures access to quality rehabilitative and
specialty services for infants, children, and youth with special needs and
their families.
As intern for the Washington DC Community Initiative, Kochavi will plan
bi-weekly educational activities for the young people served by HSC
Pediatric Center. These activities are designed to engage the subjects of
peace, justice, diversity, tolerance, and human rights as these subjects are
reflected in the life-work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Through the
creation of this unique learning environment within the hospital setting,
Kochavi will help OPAF to bring the young patients social interaction and
degrees of learning and personal achievement that they might not otherwise
encounter during the course of rehabilitation.
Established in 2002, OPAF's Internship Program provides opportunities for
creative and team-minded young people - undergraduates, recent graduates,
graduate students, and exceptional high school seniors - who wish to learn
about O&P, the nonprofit sector, and public service to individuals with
physical disabilities. Since the program's inception, OPAF has worked with
over a dozen interns, including a young woman who has since chosen to pursue
a career in O&P.

OPAF, www.opfund.org, is a 501c3 public charity, the official philanthropy
of the U.S. orthotics and prosthetics community. As a community-focused
nonprofit organization, OPAF aims primarily to enable individuals with
physical disabilities - especially those served by members of the orthotics
and prosthetics community - to enjoy the rewards of personal achievement,
physical fitness, and social interaction.
