Responses for Original message:
For some time we have been donating used orthotic and prosthetic
devices, components and occasionally materials to the World
Rehabilitation Fund in New York. From my understanding the World Rehab
Fund sorted though the products and sent them to third world
countries.
We received a letter stating that they no longer are accepting
materials
and in fact refused the last shipment.
Does anyone know of any organizations that will accept these types of
materials? If so please pass that information along. It troubles us to
think these items won't put to some greater good and will have to be
discarded.

Thank you,
Chris Casteel, RTO

called Voronesh (12 hours south of Moscow by train). They are starving
for any prosthetic and orthotic equipment/supplies. I am working
through
an organization who sends medical supplies to this hospital. I can get
you the name of the organization and any specifics you need for
verification purposes. The hospital has asked me to help them with
their
pediatrics (prosthetics and orthotics). I am only one person and can
not
ship anything to this town because the supplies will not get to
intended
destination due to corruption. I have to hand carry everything I take.

If you want to donate please call or e-mail me.

Thanks,

My name is Tallie Paz and I work for Corflex (a manufacturer of
orthopedic
products in New England). I am the local Boston account manager, and
received your e-mail from one of my O&P customers, Tom Colburn at
NOPCO
at
New England Medical Center. From the e-mail I received, it sounds like
you
are interested in donating products to charity. We work closely with a
program called Por Christo in Boston, MA. We drop off donations to
them
and
they send them to Central America and the products are remarkably used
within 48 hours of when the shipment arrives. That is how desperate
these
people are for the product. I will give you the contact information
for
the
program to see if they might be able to help you to donate your
products.
The gentleman's name is Orlando Vargas who coordinates the program. He
is
located at:

 736 Cambridge St.

Boston, MA 02135

And can be reached by (617) 562-7918 (phone) and (617) 562-7928 (fax)
and
<Email Address Redacted> via e-mail. I know he would be happy to
help
you
to donate the products to his program or to another one in your local
area.
I am copying him on this e-mail as well so he can respond. Please let
me
know if there is anything else I can do to help. It is so nice to hear
that
people are not just throwing away items that are so desperately
needed.
Thanks. Tallie Paz, Corflex

Hi, I know of two groups that would be able to use them. One is
hands
for Haiti which makes requests often on this list. The other is the
group that goes to latin america. I don't know their names, but
please
don't throw stuff out. You are right, it's frustrating sometimes.

Here are the organizations that will accept donations.

Prosthetic Donations
Question: Before I throw this old prosthesis away, I was wondering if
there
are any organizations that accept used prosthetic / orthotic
appliances?
Answer: There are 10 schools in the United States that would likely
welcome
the donation. The _American Board Certified (ABC)_

practitioners can be found in your phone book.
