In addition to the smorgasbord of content-rich sessions at the Academy's
and ACPOC's co-located Annual Meetings, a number of practitioners will
have a desire to attend special sessions which are more intensive. For
those, the Academy offers three clinical techniques sessions for a small
additional charge of $75.

The first is a 90-minute session on Hip Disarticulation and
Hemipelvectomy: Practical Approaches from Juvenile to Adulthood. A trio
of experienced practitioners will share their experiences through case
studies of problem solving of juvenile, active adult, and geriatric
fittings. Participants will learn evaluation, casting, alignment and
gait assessment.

A special two-part session with 90 minutes each on Friday and Saturday
will examine Current Concepts in the Orthotic Management of the
Lower-Limb in Children. Day One focuses on gait analysis, and orthotic
design principles demonstrated with patient videos. Day Two covers
casting and mold modification with a live fitting of a local patient.
Practitioners will be able to apply the techniques presented in their
daily practice in a more codified way.

For those who want to learn about Upper-Extremity Harnessing Techniques,
the third clinical techniques session presented by Jack E. Uellendahl,
CPO and Gerald Stark, Jr. CP, FAAOP is sure to satisfy. The duo will
concentrate on harnessing principles for body-powered and hybrid control
strategies. The discussion will include conventional harnessing
techniques and how electrically-powered prostheses often rely on
harnessed control sources to actuate switches, servos, or linear
transducers.

The 2005 Annual Meeting will be March 16-19 at Disney's Coronado Springs
Resort in Orlando, FL. Deadline for early registration and release of
the room block at the lower rates is February 11. For complete program
details and to register online, please visit the Academy's website at
www.oandp.org. You will also find additional information on special
discounts for theme parks, the meeting's Family-Friendly Schedule, and
hotel room rates even lower than the first time the Academy held its
meeting in Orlando in 1996.
