In keeping with the Academy's mission of promoting professionalism and advancing the standards of patient care through higher education and strong residency programs, the Academy has increased its support for the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) by 18 percent to $20,000 and increased its support of the National Association of Prosthetic Orthotic Educators (NAPOE) by 50 percent to $4,500 in 2005. NCOPE's request for additional financial support came as a result from a change in financial support from traditional sources.
The importance of primary education in defining who we are as a profession cannot be overstated, explained David F. Moretto, CP, FAAOP, Academy President. Increasing our contribution to NCOPE and supporting the important work done by our university program directors is consistent with our mission as the professional association for orthotists and prosthetists. The future of our profession is greatly impacted by the work of these very important organizations.
