Dear List,
My original post was sent looking for a published study of the life span of a prosthesis. I received a number of responses asking me to report my findings. I have not received any published study. I did find a reference in the Atlas of Limb Prosthetics: Surgical, Prosthetic, and Rehabilitation Principals. On page 69 under definitive prosthesis it says The average life span for a definitive is from 3 to 5 years This will be helpful for my needs. I was also given a copy of the Social Security Act 1834(G) Replacement of Prosthetic Devices and Parts. It basically states that a device less than 3 years old will only be replaced if there is a change in physiological condition of the patient. I hope this is helpful to those who responded.
