You could do either the whole claim as unassigned or as assigned. You
can not bill a part of a claim assigned and part unassigned for the same
date of service. That is not kosher by Med. guidelines. HOWEVER - we
would recommend billing the whole claim assigned, and do a ABN on the
line items you suspect will not be covered. Of course, you must show on
the ABN the price you will be charging the patient, explanation of why
you suspect it will NOT be covered, and have the patient sign. Be sure
you retain a copy in the patient file. If you do not have the
*official* ABN - the DMERC site should have it for you to download.
