Tony: A professional friend in Arlington, Virginia, contacted me about
two weeks ago regarding the 20 year old son of a fellow employee who was
in an auto accident. He lost one leg above the knee and has multiple
fractures and other problems with internal organs, etc. The family is
looking for information and any form of assistance, information-wise and
financially.
My friend is Carol Stuart, Director of Operations and Training for the
Better Business Bureau nationally. Carol helped ABC a few years ago when
she participated in an all day conference for the executive officers and
a few representatives of all the O&P organizations. We spent all day
discussing the use and benefits of Dispute Resolution programs for
amputees having problems with their Prosthetists/Orthotists. Anyway,
Carol is a fine person and would appreciate any information you might
have for the family. They have limited funds and the person who caused
the accident had virtually no insurance.
I thought perhaps if you had some references for her, they could contact
them and learn something about prostheses, whether there are
organizations that can help financially, etc. Carol Stuart is located at
4200 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22203-1838. Tel: 703.247.9383. E-Mail:
<Email Address Redacted> I have already referred her to ABC, ACA, and OPAF
and they have provided her with materials, good written stuff, and
references to the names of certified Prosthetists in her area. I also
suggested she call Shriners for any assistance. Her friend's son is 20
years old, so may be too old to get any support there.
Thanks for any help to Carol. Best wishes. Its amost active year in O&P.
