To Mr. ABC
I am writing to relay my overwhelming, awe-inspiring, unequivocal appreciation to the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics. In the past few weeks, the amount of pride that our certifying organization has shown, well, it is just plain amazing. First of all, we have these spectacular ABC/BOC negotiations to muse. Yes, they came about in an untimely, shotgun, off-the-hip sort of way, but hey, they are for our own betterment. Who better to decide that than our own elected officials. Maybe elected is not the correct word. How about our top officials. No, that does not work either. Maybe, our board nominated and chosen board officials. Yeah, that works. So our board nominated and chosen board officials have decided, for our own betterment, that our profession needs one unified body. Cool.
Now the second major gratitude comes with the most recent decision. After ABC and BOC were so quarrelsome (surprising) that they have abruptly ended all negotiations, we are inviting all BOC practitioners to join us as ABC practitioners. Just fill out some paper and, from the infamous words of Emeril Lagasse, BAM, you are ABC certified. I tell you, I couldn't be happier. It just touches that special place, deep inside my heart that we are now going to be one unified body full of a variety of different characters, I mean characteristics, from all educational, financial, motivational differences, ethical, and moral backgrounds. It is almost the perfect utopian sort of organization that one only dreams about.
Just out of curiosity, I added up everything that I have had to sacrifice to be a part of this wonderful utopian family of practitioners called ABC. First, four years of education. Two years at a CAAHEP accredited school, two years of residencies, two sets of board exams for ABC certification, and wow all of this for only 30 or 40 Thousand Dollars!!! What a deal. If I could only be this lucky for the entirety of my life.
Well, I hope this all works out as good as it is sounding. All we can do is hope that our board nominated and elected board officials continue to make high quality decisions for the betterment of our profession as they have continually done for the last couple of months.
Thank You,
A Most Grateful ABC Practitioner
