Original question:
On occasion, we'll have a patient on Workman's Comp offer to pay us
personally in order to expedite service. He haven't accepted because
we've heard that it's illegal to do so. Is there a waiver that could be
signed to allow this? What if we don't ever bill W. Comp for the
service? What if they have yet to provide information proving that they
have qualified for Workman's Comp? Please respond if you have legal
knowledge or personal experience. (not just what someone told you way
back when!)
Thanks !

Responses:
I didn't have a single response on this topic, but my front office
checked with someone in the W. Comp field who told us that we CAN have
the patient pay us for services if we have them sign a waiver
acknowledging that there's a possibility that the services won't be paid
by W. Comp. We can even bill W. Comp and try to get payment as long as
we reimburse the patient if we do get paid. We used to be under the
impression that we can't ever charge the patient anything no matter what
if they were under Worker's Comp. If anyone has more info. to shed light
on this please let me know.
Thanks, Randy
