RE: [OANDP-L] XS compression hoseHere are the responses to the following question. Thanks to those who responded.

<<< I have a 19 yo, non ambulatory, cerebral palsy patient with very small, atrophied lower limbs. He has a script for ted hose. 6ankle/8calf. I've looked all over for an off the shelf compression hose that would fit without success. Anyone know of a source for xsmall comp hose other than custom? >>>>

It looks like there are going to be alot of costs because it may not be available off the shelp.
There is a small posibility that if the swelling is at the ankle you may go to a compressorgrip sleeve and sew the toe. It depends on the volume you want to prevent in the extremity, is it severe, strong, medium, light? The problem with off the shelf is that if a foot is an adult male the ankle and calf you need may be that of a female. I wouldn't go chasing after the holy grail. See if you can get reimbursement sufficient to make a custom pair worthwhile. Sincerely, Richard L. Feldman, CPO

My experience with compression hose is that you should not be using TED hose on a ambulatory patient, though severe atrophy might mitigate this. Also, while you might find an off the shelf that small (I have not been able to find one), unless it's a perfect fit you will do better with custom. From having to write numerous justifications to ins. co.s I have found that the lower end of all of the manufacturers are about the same

Get in touch with PEL supply and ask about Therafirm stockings--they make an
extra small size. Though customs may be your best bet.
