Dear list members,
I am a practitioner and facility owner in the Hudson Valley and
Catskill Mountain region, and also a member of a Coalition that formed in response to
Helen Hayes Hospital's opening of a satellite office location in
Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County New York. The following information is provided in
response to the recent post for an open position at that office:
The decision by the New York State Department of Health to establish
this office has generated significant organized resistance by the community of
independent practitioners in the area, with the goal of petitioning New York
State officials to reconsider and to ultimately close this office. The
fundamental point fueling this resistance is that it is NOT the role of a State
Agency to use tax dollars to compete with the private sector where current services
are meeting existing community needs.
According to the CEO of the Hospital, Magdalena Ramirez, neither the
hospital nor the State DOH conducted a needs assessment prior to planning and
opening this facility; an official of the Department of Health has described it
as a business decision. We regard the decision as inappropriate and
misguided, and are working diligently to reverse it.
For additional iformation, contact the Coalition of Allied Healthcare
Professionals ( <Email Address Redacted> 845-800-9199).
Respectfully submitted, Thomas Passero, CP, Coalition member
