A young man came to see me about finger prostheses for his 3rd, 4th, and
5th fingers amputated just proximal to the PIPs on his dominent hand.
I have only seen two finger prosthesis in my short career so I do not
know of all the options available to suspend, selection of the
fabrication lab, and materials. One was held on with rings attached to
adjuncant fingers which seemed like a good method to suspend. It looked
good too, but I don't know who manufactured it. The other was glued on
and did not blend well with the skin and was rejected by the wearer.
My question to the list is how do you proceed with these hands? I'll
take impressions of both hands with alginate.
Who have you utilized to fabricate?
What pearls of knowledge can you offer up?
Thanks in advance
