Hi List members,
From my perspective, the OAF program is simply an opportunity for me
to participate in a (national) level of marketing that was unavailable
to me as an independent. I have felt absolutely no pressure from Ossur
to recommend only their components...besides, our vendors know that
we'll use whatever components we feel are best for each patient, NOT
influenced by any quotas.
I have seen it intimated on this list that mere membership in the OAF
program indicates unethical practices and that the OAF member facilities
were going to be blacklisted or Ossur boycotted. It appears that this
issue is being misconstrued, blown out proportion and is becoming a
political football, giving some a chance to vent. We need to remember
that this is a free market society and each company or facility is free
to experiment with how to market itself. It is still just prosthetists
that provide the products, not Ossur's own sales force. Ossur is a
quality company with quality products that benefit our field. Let's not
a few verbal people on this list taint them or our field with their
reactionary talk.
To my knowledge, the OAF program has never claimed to be endorsed by
the government, the ABC or the ACA. These organizations are to there to
protect the public and their representatives should not take sides on
such issues.
Quality care really comes down to the individual practitioner and the
service and options he/she can offer... not necessarily his/her
affiliation. To color everyone in a group with the same brush stroke is
just wrong.
