Responses to Clearform cones.

Only one response by email--
I have tried the blue cones from Replacement Arts. I don't have ready
access to an oven or vacuum so I wanted to use them for check sockets. The
idea is that they are dipped into hot water which softens the plastic so
that they can be pulled onto the mold. They do mold to the cast well enough
so that I was able to make a rough check socket if I needed one quickly.
They are not good if the mold is very large because the cones may not be big
enough, they tended to stick, and it is easy to stretch the plastic too
thin. They also don't buff very well on the trautman. They say you can
heat them and mold them right on the patient. I have not tried that,
perhaps that would be a better solution. As far as molding to a plaster
cast, I prefer to send my casts to our fabrication office and let them make
a durplex check socket for me. If you plan to make a flexible inner socket
from the cone, I'd say use something else.

Scott at Hanger in Tulsa called me and said he has had very good success casting over liners with the cones. They don't compress as much as plaster so he casts over a 3mm liner and then uses the cone as a check socket over a 6mm liner. Patient can stand and the cone can easily be adjusted by hand. He was happy with them but mentioned he has only been using them for a few weeks. Also the two smaller sizes are too small for any BKs he tried.

I am purchasing the system, so if you want my opinion email me in a couple of months.
