Thanks to all who responded.

I did a search of the Palmetto GBA web site and found the specific
reference to answer the inquiry.

Program Memorandum (PM) AB-00-18 gives the updated info per consolidated
billing for SNF's. Consolidated billing applies to all services and
supplies rendered to a SNF resident in an SNF PPS Part A stay, unless
specifically exempted. If exempted, the outside entity providing the
exempted service must bill directly to Medicare and not the SNF. This
became effective April 1, 2000.

The excluded HCPCS codes for prosthetics are quite extensive and can be
found at the Palmetto web site.

Conclusion...certain prosthetic codes are exempted from the consolidated
billing, services can be provided to patients in a SNF, and Medicare can
be billed for the services exempted.

Thanks to all,

Mike Madden, BOC,C.Ped
