US Politics - K-codes ????
Text:
First I would like to thank all of you that responded to my request for
information on the new K-codes.
Now I am asking for a little discussion on this List about what the K-codes
mean.
From the information received it is my understanding that K0556 and K0557
would apply to all prefabricated gel liners and K0558 and K0559 would apply
to all custom gel liners.
To the best of my knowledge the only custom fabricated Gel liner is the TEC
liner. Are there any more? I do not consider a prefab pulled over a cast and
heated as custom fabricated. This might be called custom fitted, but what
makes the profession of O&P unique is what we have professed in the past
custom fabrication
Following is not how it appears in the information received, but to me would
be more logical.
K0556 for locking gel liner replacement
K0557 for non-locking liner replacement
K0558 for new locking gel liner
K0559 for new non-locking gel liner.
The information received reads that K0558 and K0559 are for types of
amputation and are both reimbursed at the same level. I feel a new locking
liner should be reimbursed at a higher level then a new non-locking liner.
How do the rest of you understand the new K-codes? As this is only the second
day they have been in effect it would be nice to be clear on this before
there are issues.
