The Barr Foundation is pleased to announce that fellow board director Kim Doolan, and myself have received official confirmation of our appointments to the negotiated rulemaking hearings on Special Payment Provisions and Requirements for Custom Fabricated Orthotics and Prosthetics sponsored by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Department of Health and Human Resources.

The purpose of the rulemaking process is (a series of meetings) is to allow the industry to help develop regulations which will implement Section 427 of BIPA. This Medicare law restricts who can provide prosthetic and certain custom orthotic services to qualified providers. The negotiations will deal with to what codes the restrictions should apply, what constitutes a qualified provider and how the regulations should be implemented.

The first scheduled meetings will be held Tuesday, October 1st thru Thursday, October 3rd at the Pikesville Hilton, in Pikeville Maryland.

Regards,
