i have a patient with distal interphalangeal joint amputation. my
suggestion to him was to have a cosmetic prosthesis made of silicon
because the level of amputation does not put much physical demand on the
prosthesis itself for the daily functions of the hand. the patient told
me he had been to the US where he was given a suggestion to do finger
transplant with elctrodes implanted in the residual finger itself. he
was told this operation is being done in France.I have to give him a
final suggestion within this week and i am really short of options.
Anybody has an idea about the above mentioned case ? i need a
suggestion.

1. is such an operation being done anywhere in the world and

2. if at all it is being done , is it worth it to put the body in the
trouble of having immunosuppressants and other associated problems for
such a small degree of disbility.

3. which companies have the facility to do silicone prosthesis.is it
practical?

anybody sharing the experience is most welcome and would make me really
obliged.

Thanks in advance.
