Dear Sir or Madam
We have been consulted by a number of doctors
through internet in different countries: US, Italy,
Germany etc. And we were advised that now is the best
time to fit the first prosthesis. At the first stage
it is recommended to use a passive hand prosthesis for
4-6 months and only after this, when the baby is 18
months we could fit the myoelectric one.
We are well informed about Amputee Resource
Foundation of America we also have been consulted by
Jennifer Barnes < <Email Address Redacted> > |
that's why we hope that you can help us.
Our baby is 8 months now.
But firstly, I would like to let you know that we are
NOT THE CITIZENS OF THE US, i.e. we live in Georgia
which is one of former Soviet Union countries, it is
in Caucasus, on the Black Sea coast. So as you can now
understand all your kind suggestions become
unaffordable in this case, since it will be very
difficult for us to travel such a long distance with 8
month baby right now. Perhaps it would be better to
make the non-functional cosmetic hand and
cosmetic glove here, in Georgia and when it’s time for
myoelectric prostheses to travel to the US. Thus we
would appreciate if you could tell us what we, as
non - US citizens should do. We are interested if it
is possible for us to buy a non-functional cosmetic
hand and
cosmetic glove through you, if so could we have a
detailed instructions and recommendations from you on
its application, we would highly appreciate your
consultancies. Meanwhile, here, (in Georgia or in
Russia) we would seek the specialists who will be able
to fit the hand. I am not sure how much all this is
possible to do, so I would like to hear your opinion
about it. If this seems to be possible at all then
please let us know the price of such prosthesis, as
well as the price of myoelectric one and generally how
much the whole procedure might cost. As you can
understand we cannot get any insurance money so we
have to try to raise fund somehow. We would also like
to know what else we should do on our part in case of
the availability of the passive hand prostheses, how
can the purchase be organized.
We would highly appreciate your response.
