An invitation to Prosthetists and Orthotists!
Healing Hands for Haiti is looking for Prosthetists and Orthotists who are willing to donate a week of their time to do humanitarian work in Haiti. From our Clinic in Port-au-Prince, we see patients in need of prosthetic and orthotic devices. There are well over 100,000 amputees in Haiti, and virtually no O&P services available. There is also a tremendous need for pediatric and adult lower extremity bracing.
Healing Hands is a young organization. Our mission is to offer Rehab services and continuity of care. The latter being the reason for this posting. Currently, our clinic is only staffed one week per month for approximately four months a year. Our goal is to get that number up to twelve. Ultimately, we wish to identify Haitians to evaluate and fabricate the O&P devices, but we need the support of trained professionals to begin the education process. In time, this will foster a program of self-reliance where Haitians are treating Haitians, instead of continually relying on outside sources.
We are constantly looking for O&P and PT/OT professionals, as well as Physicians willing to join us in one of the most rewarding experiences of a lifetime. Will you join us?
