Tom,

I believe they were introduced in 1993 on a trial basis in order to see if
diabetic footwear and other related items would help reduce the number of
amputations that were occurring in the states. I was told that "A&
quot;codes are
temporary codes set up by medicare that could be dumped at anytime if
medicare felt these devices were ineffective. Don't know how much of all of
this is true, but maybe some other people on the list can confirm or debunk
this info?

Tom The study program was started in 1989. Theactual law was signed in
early 1993. I'm fairly sure of these dates.
