I thank you all for your quick and concise responses to my postings
regarding custom molded shoes. It appears that I am not the only one with
this problem. Below are the responses that I have received today.
A necessary evil describes it pretty well. We, too, try to avoid true
custom shoes. I am aware that many facilities are simply not offering
this service PERIOD because is absolutely and positively a money LOSING
event.
Now to answer your question, you will get many responses to try
so-N-so. Let me assure you, they are all basically the same. Some
good, some not so good. We've tried them all! Good luck for 3-4
months, horrible luck for the next 3-4. It's an endless cycle and we
have tried almost every manufacturer out there. I have found that each
practitioner in our office has favorites. I use ACOR only on good
paying insurances as they are the most expensive and again, this is a
big time money LOSING ordeal. We have had pretty good luck with LORD
custom shoes and another uses Tru-fit. But again, it's on again, off
again.
I truly believe that these companies were so unprepared for the influx
of business since Medicare passed the shoe bill that they all hired
inexperienced techs and the quality went right down the drain. New
companies are not appearing (or are not advertising well if they are).
I wish you luck, but I don't think you're going to find that silver
lining! :-)
