John,
Thank you for your comments. I have posted my questions and concerns to the issue on another e-mail to the OANDP-L.
It seems that your personal support of the AOPA by-law change was perceived, by many, as an official endorsement by the credentialing association, ABC.You are certainly entitled to your personal opinion, as I am.
My opinion is that both the Academy (membership) and ABC (certifees), both organizations that share memberships or affiliations with AOPA, and both of whom advocate for the highest standards in the profession, should of taken an official position prior to it coming to vote.

Again, thank you for the clarification. I have taken the liberty of retracting my incorrect statement of ABC officially endorsing the AOPA by-law amendment.

  Tony,
I am writting in response to your message from Oct. 30. At no time did the ABC Board endorse the proposed by-laws change from AOPA. I was asked to respond to the proposed change and I voiced my opinion. Again, that was my opinion. AOPA is not the repository of standards for qualified O&P care. ABC is. AOPA is a business association. We can't work with organizations to bring them up to standards unless they are a part of the standards family. If AOPA's brings in other organizations, then we have the opportunity to elevate the quality of patient care by encouraging them to meet ABC accreditation and credentialing standards.
The ABC Board communicated with AOPA ,recommending that they defer any change until a more complete analysis of its impact on our programs can be compiled.
As you can see there is no endorsement from the ABC Board. I would suggest you call me if you have any questions or concerns about any comments I make, but do not accuse the Board of something they did not do.
