Hi all,
Personally I have the impression that terrorists will generally not be
overcome by sending them bread and butter (even though sending bread and
knowledge instead of guns to poor people might reduce their desire to oppose
western foreign politics). Bring Bin Laden to justice, for his previous
crimes, for the hijackings, (that is, IF it is him who is behind the
hijackings), and those who aide him as well. I would say 'the sooner the
better'. However, if in the process of obtaining this justice millions of
people (for instance Afghan people) are being starved, just because they
have the bad luck that a group of criminals purports to share their faith,
we would be acting in the same shameful way as those who flew those planes.
We should not mistake 'islamic' terrorists to be people representing the
Islam in general. Do we declare war on all Roman Catholics and Protestants
because there are terrorist groups who call themselves such and then kill
eachother and many innocent bystanders in Ireland? Being a Christian myself
I strongly resent Irish (or any other) criminals calling themselves
Christians as well. Or do we call for a war on Christianity in general
because many innocent people were killed during the Crusades in the past? I
think not, neither Christianity nor Islam condone terrorism, not to spread
the faith and not for any other purpose. Let's not fall into the trap set by
'Islamic' fanatics, that is, let's not start thinking this is a war between
two religions.
