Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am seeking advice, and experiences related to the prosthetic fitting of a
quadramembral amputee. The client I am dealing with is a left transhumeral,
right transradial, and bilateral transfemoral. She has been fit with
conventional body powered upper extremity prostheses due to significant scar
tissue and the need for immediate return to functionality. Myoelectric
prostheses will be considered for future use as healing improves.
My question is what to consider with for lower extremity prostheses. She was
a bilateral transtibial until infection reappeared causing the revisions to
long transfemoral level bilaterally.
The immediate plan is to proceed with bilateral IC sockets with feet attached
directly distal, and lengthen as balance improves. It is our hope that she'll
be able to use her terminal devices (5XA) to roll on silicone suction liners
for suspension, and protection of the significant scar tissue. Shuttle
mechanisms will be installed in the distal sockets for suspension. Hip joints
and pelvic bands/belts were considered too difficult for donning due to the
upper extremity involvement.
I would appreciate any insight or shared experience from this forum.
