Dear fellow list members:

I noticed on my schedule that I have a 13 year old female coming in for
a scoliosis brace. The doctors in our fairly rural area do not treat
scoliosis and refer patients to a large metropolitan hospital about 1 ½
hours away. These physicians in turn refer to a local Orthotist in that
area. Hence, we have done very little of this (none recently). This
will be my first and I will, of course, consult with our other
practitioners. Unfortunately, they are as limited as I am with no
recent experiences. I am asking for your assistance in what types of
bracing are being used successfully today. I learned the Boston method
at NUPOC, but it has been several years ago. Unfortunately, different
braces require differing casting methods. I need to be prepared and
will reschedule this patient until I can investigate my options further.

I attended NUPOC and recall being lectured by a certain fellow who we
regarded as the “scoliosis guru.” I remember that he referred to
journal articles with every fact he provided and was truly the KING of
scoliosis bracing. He was truly knowledgeable and seemed to dedicate
his life to scoliosis bracing. If anyone knows who this guy is, please
provide me some information. I would love his opinion, too.

Thanks in advance.
