Subject: Through Knee 6 yr old
Hi All
I am looking for a knee for a 6 year old patient, any suggestions.
Best wishes
Gary
These are the replies
Pediatric Total Knee. I believe it is called Small Wonder. I have used
it for pediatric knee disarticulation with good outcomes.
I have had good luck with the pediatric Total Knee, Century XXII
Innovations.
Kids Total Knee?
Century multi axial knee is clearly the choice for a pediatric patient. Good
luck.
Otto Bock has a pediatric friction knee with ext. assist, and a pedi
manual locking knee
Just had a second thought - I have an article about paediatric case studies,
one of which uses the small wonder knee- if you let me have a fax no. I'll
get it sent to you.
Attached is a PDF file on the ProAdvantage X-2 4-Bar knee/pylon system.
Notice the pediatric version. The list price is $588. This could be an
excellent choice for your 6 year old patient. Let me know if you would
like more information.
HELLO MR. GARY
MY NAME IS RUDY GARCIA-TOLSON I.M 12 YEARS OLD . I'M A BI-LATERAL THROUGH
KNEE AMPUTEE.
YOU CAN FIND PHOTOS AND ARTICLES ABOUT ME ON THE WEB SIGHTS IF YOU TYPE MY
NAME IN UNDER SEARCH THE WEB.
I HAVE BEEN WEARING THE TOTAL KNEE FOR KIDS FOR 5 YEARS NOW AND I REALLY DO
LIKE IT.
I'M GETTING READY TO GET THE ADULT TOTAL KNEE SOON BECAUSE I'M GROWING.....
I'M LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THE TOTAL KNEE IS GOOD FOR KIDS. SO TRY IT ON YOUR
6 YEAR OLD PATIENT.... IF YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO SEND YOUR PATIENT A POSTCARD
OF ME JUST LET ME KNOW......
ALL MY BEST,
RUDY
There is a new Knee available from Hosmer. It is a polycentric (4-Bar) knee
with adjustable extension assist (4 interchangeable springs) and adjustable
friction control for swing phase. The knee is called Mighty-Mite and is
rated
for patients weighing up to 132lbs (60kg). It connects via a pediatric size
pyramid on top and a 22 mm tube clamp on the bottom.
Century XXII has a pediatric version of their Total Knee which works very
well. I have used on my pediatric patients with good results except for one
problem. The posterior link will bend with increased activity. They do make
a
titanium link at an extra charge. I have argued successfully that most
patients at this age are high activity and that the bending linkage is a
design problem. The patient I had the difficulty with was a 50# Hip
Disartic...well below the 100# weight limit of the knee
Try the Century 22 Pediatric, Otto Bock, or DAW. They all have polycentric
designs.
Cascade Orthopedic has a new Child's Mechanical Knee with a dual carbon rod
system.
Why don't you try Otto Bock Modular four bar linkage Child Knee (3R66) which
also offers some amount of rotation.I have also used the Endolite four bar
knee for Child in a similar case and the results were pretty good.
Best wishes
