Here are the responses to my question regarding orthotic knee joints that you pull a cable to unlock and then have to pull it to lock again.
It seems some people thought I only wanted a cable activated knee joint.
I tried our becker catalogue but it is a few years old and obviously not up to date.I like Beckers joints and their quality so I'll e-mail them if some one can send me their email address or website address.
Does anybody have the web and e-mail address for fillauer?
Thanks everybody for your responses

HI, Andrew

We use Becker`s device named leaver release, that you can apply on the automatic knee joints (model 1003) to get the result you are looking for.
Best regards, from Brazil

First, I am not aware of orthotic hinges with the type of locking/unlocking
you want integrated in them. But I was thinking that perhaps you can make a
custom system combining a standard locking/unlocking joint, cable activated,
with a type of latch, for instance a toggle latch (see for some examples /
ideas <URL Redacted>) or a magnetic latch (e.g.
<URL Redacted>)

Yes, Becker make a cable release knee joint
.............................................................................................................................................................................................
OTS makes a cable acuated lock that can be set up to operate in the manner you require. you can get info at
<URL Redacted>
The company is quite responsive, although I have had some minor problems with the quality control on the finish of their joints. The cable setup is fairly slick and low profile.

Freedom Fabrication has a cable system that I have used with Becker
jts. that will do exactly what you are looking for. I have used it one time
and I will use it again if the opportunity arises. Hope this helps

Becker has one that works pretty well. Also Tony at Freedom Fabrication has
been marketing a design they have available. (www.freedomfabrication.com)

Andrew: Our lever release kit works as you describe. It can be used on
StepLock NotchLock (bail lock) or even other types. Give me a call if you
like to know more. Price for the kit is $27.50

TRY BECKER ORTHOPEDIC
.............................................................................................................................................................................................
my company (name deleted to prevent a buildup of tension in those who are anal retentive)
manufactures a system that allows the
pateint to unlock a bail lock knee joint by lifting a button on the proximal
lateral aspect of the thigh shell.
Its small, light, and easy to install, and inexpensive. you can see some
pretty good pictures of the Freedom Release on our web site,
WWW.freedomfabrication.com or if you would like me to send you some
literature in the mail I would be glad, to if you just send me your address.

Please let me know if there is any thing I can do to be of service,
..........................................................................................................................................................................................I like the Fillauer Cam-Lock Joints with their Trigger Release systen. It
will do what your are wanting for your patient.
...........................................................................................................................................................................................
Plenty of cable lock joints around, including that dodgy firm called Otto
Bock!!
Just utilise one of them with the Bock prosthetic lock handle - you know,
the one that looks like an upside down umbrella. This has the side positions
available that will keep the joints unlocked until the patient replaces the
handle to the central position.
............................................................................................................................................................................................
There are a number of knee joints out there that have lever locks with
attachable cables available. Off the top of my head, Becker(not sure of
the supplier in Australia) and Otto Bock have these joints. Otto Bock
<www.ottobock.com.au> carries a line called Masseur and I believe that they
have a pretty decent set-up...more expensive but for a polio patient, more
durable. All of these joints work like the classic bails but have levers
attachments instead.
..............................................................................................................................................................................................
I justb recently fit a patient with the DAW Ultra Light Weight KAFO on a Post-Polio patient. The Knee joint had a lever which locks at 180 degrees or the patient can disengage the locking mechanism like you want. It appears to be a modular-like joint and I'm not sure they sell it individually. My patient likes it because she can lock the knee joint for community ambulation and unlock it when she works around the office. Good Luck.
............................................................................................................................................................................................
Although we primarily manufacture carbon composite knee braces to cast,
we also make custom to cast carbon AFO/KAFO's. One of our most popular KAFO
designs is our Trigger lock design. It utilyzes either the Becker 1003 or
the Fillauer Camlock( under 180 lbs.)knee hinge. We cable these through the
laminate to a lever at the top lateral portion of the thigh. The Becker
lever is a simple pull-to-release lever. The Fillauer release has a hold
open position. Freedom Fabricaters in Florida has come out with a release
knob that also has a hold open position. Incidentally the cable systems are
interchangeable with the different hinges. If you have any questions about
this, please call me at
