List Servers: Thanks to all who responded to my question about safety
regulations. I plan on using the resources mentioned.
John B.
Original Request:
I am interested in finding some basic information about the following
regulations, as they apply to O/P:
Hazardous Materials, General Safety Policies, OSHA Regulations,
Universal Precautions, Infection Control
I am responsible for developing policies related to these issues in
small OP facility, and would like to know what resources any of you
recommend to get some basic information.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Responses:
The first thing you DON'T want to do is ask the appropriate authorities.
If they know you are interested they may inspect forcing you to do many
bad things. Many of the regs don't apply to small business, usually
under 50 employees, unless you are sued then the suing rat expects you
to
adhere to the same rules as NASA. You can probably get some info from
AOPA but I would contact and join National Federation of Independent
Business (NFIB) as this is one of the things they can help members with.

Hi John, I believe that your local OSHA office will provide you with
all
the details that you need to develop and implement each of the policies
mentioned...
OSHA will provide you with Pamphlets, instructions for setting up
policies, and implementing the policies in your office. They should
also
help you set up training programs for each employee in your office.
One side note: once you talk to them and get info, they will know who
you are...!
I believe you can anonymously get info at www.osha.gov ?? I think
that's the address.

John I don't have the regulation information, however, it is required by
law in most countries to have MSDS forms in potentially hazardous areas.
You can get information about Otto Bock chemicals & hazardous goods from
the attached web area.
****************
I recently handled our ABC inspection for our facility accredation-we
had to
address many of these issues-I believe AOPA publishes a handbook which
reviews these issues
*****************
Could you include me on any info you recieve I am in the same boat.
Also I
do not know if you had seen the O&P Almanac a month or two ago. It had
a
good write up on this subject.
