SEMINAR 2000
Building the future of sports for people with physical disabilities
Atlanta, GA For immediate Release. On August 28 and August 29, physical,
recreation, and occupational therapists; adapted PE teachers; university
students, recreation professionals, parents and others will gather in
Atlanta to participate in a national conference promoting the development of
community-based sports and recreation programs for children and adults with
physical disabilities. Sports for people with disabilities has never been a
hotter field, and this conference will assist in further developing this
arena.
Nationally and internationally recognized leaders in the disability sports
movement, from Paralympic athletes and coaches to the International
Paralympic Committee Sports Technical Officer to grassroots community
leaders, will be a part of this conference. Renowned experts in the fields
of coaching, nutrition, disability awareness, and advocacy will share tools,
resources and support structures to facilitate the development and operation
of community-based sports programs.
The three-track seminar will focus on: (1) an introduction to adapted sports
programming, (2) program management and (3) sports coaching. The seminar
will provide CEU's and National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA)
certification.
Held on the campus of Georgia State University, the seminar will be
centrally located to downtown Atlanta, hotels, restaurants and surrounding
areas.
Seminar 2000 is presented by the U.S. Disabled Athletes Fund, Inc. and
Georgia State University Center for sports Medicine, Science and Technology.
