My wife is a PT in a hospital where Joint Commission is evaluating the
facility. Her progress notes and evaluations were placed under the
microscope. Lord are we in trouble. The examiner told her to stop
using certain words to describe a patient's condition. One word in
particular was edema. The reason was that Medicare treatment decision
makers don't know what the word means. Use swelling he said. Hummm.
Now you know what you all suspected. Surprise, surprise.
