DEAR LIST:
SORRY THE RESPONSES HAVE TAKEN SO LONG.
PER THE K0825. WE HAD A REP AT HCFA FAX US FIVE PAGES OF INFORMATION AS
TO WHY OUR L-CODING FOR LABOR WAS DENIED AS INCORRECT, AND THAT WE SHOULD
BE USING THE K-CODE. WE REBILLED USING THE K-CODE... FILING ON A HCFA
1500 FORM WITH INVOICES AND DESCRIPTORS AND COPIES OF THE Rx ETC...
ETC... ETC... (INSTEAD OF ELECTRONICALLY AS WE HAD ORIGINALLY) HAD IT
DENIED AGAIN... AND THEN WERE INFORMED THAT THE L-CODE IS THE CORRECT WAY
TO BILL LABOR, THAT OUR CLAIM WAS INCORRECTLY DENIED BASED ON THE
L-CODING, BUT CORRECTLY DENIED BASED ON THE K-CODING. TO ADD TO THE
FRUSTRATION, WE BILLED TWO SEPARATE PATIENTS, FOR TWO SEPARATE DATES OF
SERVICE (WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER) FOR EXACTLY THE SAME SERVICES,
USING EXACTLY THE SAME CODING (L codes this time!), WORDING, PRICING,
OFFICE GENERATED INVOICES ETC...ETC...ETC... AND WERE PAID TWO DIFFERENT
AMOUNTS !!! GO FIGURE?
AS FOR THE M-CODE, A LIGHT BULB SUDDENLY SHONE BRIGHTLY!!! AS BEST I AM
ABLE TO DETERMINE THIS IS A PHYSICIANS L-CODE FOR AN OFFICE VISIT, IT WAS
GIVEN TO ME BY A LOCAL REP FOR ONE OF THE MAJOR KNEE ORTHOSIS
MANUFACTURERS ON ONE OF THEIR SUGGESTED CODING SHEETS THEY HAND
OUT...GUESS THE SECRETS OUT...HE GAVE ME THE WRONG HAND OUT !?!? DO THEY
REALLY MARKET TO DR'S...DUH
THANKS TO ALL WHO REPLIED

Mike:
I'd appreciate it if you would pass on what anyone has to say on the use
of K0825. This code is not listed in the current HCPCS listing from
HCFA, so my assumption is that it's a local code for your DMERC? Also,
the current HCPCS doesn't have any M codes for office visits that would
pertain to O&P. If you'd like to see a list of the existing national M
codes, send me your fax number and I'll be happy to send them to you.
Thanks,

Neither one of these codes is listed in the HCFA master code list for the
Region C DMERC.

Hi, I remember a long time ago when I worked with then Orthomedics we had
M codes They had nothing to do with Medicare they were for customary
paying patients. Goodluck.

Mike,
greetings from Minnesota. Our Medicare manual does not list a K0825 for
labor, is that an old number. K codes are temporary codes that get
switched over to L codes. The current L code for labor is L7520. It is
for 1 unit of 15 minutes labor. As for the M code there is nothing in the
DME manual that has an M code. Maybe home care nurses or therapists have
that in their billing but not O&P. I hope this helps you. Maybe others
have different info. I just came back from the AOPA coding and billing
seminar and I think that all the most current info was given to us.
