Following are more responses to my inquiry about a foot/ankle for kayaking.

you could always use the rothschild prosthesis. its the one that is
completely plastic; socket, pylon, and a foot that is glued on. it can be
aligned in plantarflexion before bonding the foot in place. another option
is the Towbridge Terra-Round accessory foot that can be inserted into the
pylon. its made by the people at Ferrier Coupler. the foot that you
originally spoke of may be called something like a Rampo-foot or ankle. i
have looked through a bunch of magazines but i can't seem to find it either.

Be careful. The foot that was on the market, several years ago (and VA
contract), was trash. I had 4 for one patient and it never worked.

I have utilized the LA Ankle II, it allows for 70 degrees of planterflexion
and has 2 locked positions. One for walking and one for swimming. The foot
and ankle combination are heavy but both patient's that are wearing it really
like it. It is available through Ortho Europe, Email address is

The foot you are looking for is from OrthoEurope and is distributed by Ortho
Enterprises. Their phone number is (732) 819-8188 or (888) 678-4612.

you could try the Active Ankle. It will lock at 90 degrees, allow you to
plantar flex and lock the foot or you can unlock it and have it completely
free. the foot is not designed to be walked on too much. Think of using a
Frier coupler (sp) so your patient can walk to the pool or stream (lake)
then change the foot to kayak. Also there is the Total Concept foot from
Century xxI- its a single axis foot that allows you to alter the dorsi and
plantarflexion. You will get more plantarflexion range form the active
ankle.
